Craig Holcomb, executive director at (214) 421-2999
Save the Trinity is a specific purpose committee. Our purpose is to oppose the petition to determine whether an issue involving banning construction of a highway of four or more lanes inside the Trinity River levees is required to be submitted in an election and, if necessary, any ballot issue to that effect.
We feel that the voters have already voted on this issue and to call another election would delay progress on the Trinity and also harm fundraising efforts.
The Trinity bond program, as approved by the voters in 1998, was a compromise between many projects - flood control, recreation, environmental concerns, economic development and transportation improvements. To begin negating one aspect of that compromise would call the entire program into question.
The Parkway, as envisioned in 1998, had four lanes on each side of the river for a total of eight lanes. It is now planned to be all on the downtown side with six lanes from U.S. 183 to Corinth and four lanes from Corinth to U.S. 175.
Craig Holcomb is the Treasurer of Save the Trinity and donors include Louis Beecherl, Crow Holdings, JPI, Ralph Ellis, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Deedie Rose, the Dallas Citizens Council, LopezGarcia, CH2M Hill, and Peter and Edith O’Donnell.
